Typography

So many graphic designers come out of design programs under the notion that visuals created for public consumption are just that—some sort of image—without taking into account the impression that typography has on a viewer.

This class examines the letter as a form defining and breaking formats, expression through visual hierarchy, and pushing the preconceived understanding of legibility.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will:

  • Explore typographic techniques
  • Understand the basic principles of typesetting
  • Demonstrate a proficiency in designing multiple page, sequential design projects
  • Understand the relationship of typography as an image, as well as pairing with imagery
